"I absolutely didn't think that MPs could do so much," Claire O'Petit marvels.

Claire O'Petit is against holding multiple mandates. After 13 years and 5 months in the Grandes Gueules , and a significant experience as a member of parliament, the former shopkeeper from Seine-Saint-Denis was back this Friday on RMC and RMC Story , on the occasion of the release of her book Le destin m'a permis d'aller plus haut que mes rêves .

But how does one go from GG to deputy of La République en Marche? By meeting Brigitte Macron, a fan of the Grandes Gueules , allowing her to obtain the investiture and be elected deputy of the 5th constituency of Eure from 2017 to 2022: "It was an incredible experience and an incredible discovery," recalls Claire O'Petit.

"I absolutely didn't think that MPs could do so much. On the other hand, if you want to do your job well, you can only be an MP, not a mayor, not anything, just an MP," she assures.

A plea against holding multiple mandates that François Bayrou would like to bring back into fashion: "Otherwise, you're not doing your job, you're not a real MP. If you want to be out in the field, talking to people, working on your files, and then being in the National Assembly, you work 14 hours a day. If you're also mayor, you rehire executives, but you're not the one working," assures Claire O'Petit.

This explains why the chamber is sometimes sparse, even when it comes to important texts: "Very often, the deputies are not in the chamber but in the committees. We work very little in the chamber; we are there when the law is made and worked on, we work mainly in the committees," explains the former elected official.

But then why didn't Claire O'Petit run for a second term? It was because she didn't get re-appointed in her constituency in 2022. The fault of Sébastien Lecornu , the former Minister of the Armed Forces," she asserts. "If I wasn't re-appointed, it's because Minister Sébastien Lecornu preferred to put in one of his extremely close friends at the last minute. And it was the RN that won," Claire O'Petit laments.

But the former GG hasn't said her last word: "I'm not done with politics," she assures.
